Current, government issued, not expired. 18 or older for a truck, 16 for a trailer.

A hitch with the right ball, working trailer lights, and a tow rating that covers the load. The reservation checks your year, make and model.

Trailers
A flat daily rate with no mileage charge. You supply the tow vehicle, so there is no fuel to settle either.
Fuel and coverage
Bring the truck back at the fuel level you took it out at. U-Haul refuels at a higher rate if you do not. Damage coverage is optional and quoted when you reserve.

- Return any hourPark in the U-Haul area, lock it, and finish the return in the U-Haul app or with the drop box. Your rental ends when the return is recorded.

Where we are
Minutes from the freeway, close to the college
5600 Baltimore Drive sits just off Lake Murray Boulevard, one exit from Interstate 8 and minutes from State Route 125. Most of East County and the college area is a short drive.
SDSU is about four miles west. In May and August a cargo van or 10 foot truck clears a dorm room in one load, and the propane counter is there for the barbecue at the other end. Heading for Cuyamaca, Anza-Borrego or the desert, fill the tanks and hitch the trailer in the same stop.

What are the U-Haul counter hours?
The U-Haul counter is open 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Monday and 6:00 AM to 7:30 PM Tuesday through Sunday. That is shorter than the station, which stays open to 9:00 PM most nights and 10:00 PM Friday and Saturday. Returns are accepted 24 hours a day.
Can I return the truck after hours?
Yes. This location has 24 hour customer return. Park in the U-Haul area, lock the truck, and finish the return in the U-Haul app or with the drop box. Your rental ends at the time the return is recorded, so do it as soon as you park.

Can I rent one way from La Mesa?

What size truck do I need?
A cargo van or 10 foot truck handles a studio or dorm room. A 15 foot truck fits a one or two bedroom home. A 20 foot truck covers two or three bedrooms and is the size most families take. A 26 foot truck is for three or four bedroom homes. When in doubt go one size up, because a second trip costs more than the bigger truck.
Can I rent a car hauler or tow dolly?
Yes, both are U-Haul equipment available through this dealer. An auto transport carries the car on all four wheels and works for most vehicles. A tow dolly lifts the front wheels and is meant for front wheel drive cars. Your tow vehicle has to meet U-Haul's rating for the load, and the reservation checks your year, make and model.
Do I need my own hitch to rent a trailer?
Yes. Your vehicle needs a hitch with the correct ball, a wiring connector for the trailer lights, and a tow rating that covers the trailer. We do not install hitches at this location. U-Haul's hitch centers do, and uhaul.com will show you the nearest one.
Can I get propane at the same stop?
Yes, and that is the point of renting here. Propane is filled by the gallon on the same lot, so a move or a camping trip is one stop instead of two. Fill the RV or the barbecue tank while the paperwork prints.
Is there room to turn a truck or trailer around?
Yes. The lot is a pull-through, so you drive in one side and out the other. You do not have to reverse a 26 foot truck or a loaded trailer back onto Baltimore Drive.
Do you sell boxes and moving supplies?
Yes. Boxes, packing tape, furniture pads and covers are sold at the counter, and you can add supplies to an online reservation and pick them up with the truck.
